Case Description
Sudden appearance of typical deformation and lameness
The pastern was noted to have "collapsed" in
a plantar direction, and the horse showed a 3/5 degree lameness.
Gradual development of muscle atrophy
Disuse atrophy was generalized throughout
the left hind (LH) limb, and most readily noted in the gluteal area
Persistence of deformation
Despite attempts at protective bandaging and
splinting, the deformation persisted, as did the lameness.
