Recess in the Disk of the Depth Gauge [4]   Insert the Schanz Screw:
Insert the Schanz screw into the bone, through the 6.0 mm/5.0 mm Drill Sleeve, until the chuck touches the top of the drill sleeve. The screw is now fully engaged in the far cortex. Insert all remaining Schanz screws through the triple trocar assembly. If desired, the frame can be preassembled, and the triple trocar assembly can be used through the clamps.* Notes:
  • Schanz screws should he placed at least 2 cm from the fracture site.
  • Do not insert a Schanz screw across the fracture line in an attempt
        to lag the far fragment.
  • Always insert at least two Schanz screws per fragment; in the femur,
three are recommended if the frame will be used definitively.
  • If possible, avoid placing Schanz screws through open wounds.
  • Do not place Schanz screws in the joint space.
