North American Musculoskeletal Trauma Education Committee
(NAMTEC) Update

by Richard H. Lange, M.D., Chairman

The North American Musculoskeletal Trauma Education Committee remains hard at work overseeing the North American AO trauma Courses. In the last issue of AONA News, Larry Webb nicely reviewed the history of this committee, its mission, and significant contributions of past chairmen, in particular Jim Kellam.

It is now time to similarly recognize the considerable effort put forth by Larry Webb while chairman of this committee. In addition to all of the normal course organizational activities, he was instrumental in the lengthy and challenging process of obtaining CME accreditation for AO North America. He also advanced the concept of course sequencing in the educational process, and initiated the process of leading the AO courses into the digital age. Larry used his considerable wit and wisdom in exemplary fashion, to direct all aspects of this committee's work during his two years as chairman.

Richard Lange, M.D.

I am privileged to follow Larry as chair of this committee and feel fortunate to work with such an accomplished group as Jorge Alonso, Joe Borelli, Richard Buckley, Christoph Geel, Mitch Harris, Jim Hughes, Larry Webb and Jack Wilber, as well as ex-officio members Joan Rousseau and Jim Gerry. The entire Continuing Education team in Paoli should also be acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to AONA educational efforts.

The focus of our efforts, and the challenge going forward, is to incorporate the marvels of the digital age into our AO course formats, yet simultaneously maintain the interpersonal faculty-participant style which has always been the hallmark of the AO course experience. State-of-the-art teaching utilizing all available technology, with a personal touch, is our direction and the exciting challenge for the years ahead. On behalf of the NAMTEC Committee we welcome ideas and insight from any AO North American and International members.
